Crash-Tolerant Consensus in Directed Graphs
نویسندگان
چکیده
This work considers a point-to-point network of n nodes connected by directed links, and proves tight necessary and sufficient conditions on the underlying communication graphs for achieving consensus among these nodes under crash faults. We identify the conditions in both synchronous and asynchronous systems. This research is supported in part by National Science Foundation awards 1329681. Asynchronous Crash-Tolerant Consensus in Directed Graphs: Randomization and Topology Knowledge
Consider a directed point-to-point network. We are interested in the asynchronous crash-tolerant consensus problem in incomplete directed networks in which not all pair of nodes are connected by a communication channel. Our prior work [36] presented a tight condition, Condition CCA, for achieving approximate consensus in asynchronous networks. This paper proves tight necessary and sufficient co...
متن کاملFault-Tolerant Distributed Optimization (Part IV): Constrained Optimization with Arbitrary Directed Networks
We study the problem of constrained distributed optimization in multi-agent networks when some of the computing agents may be faulty. In this problem, the system goal is to have all the non-faulty agents collectively minimize a global objective given by weighted average of local cost functions, each of which is initially known to a non-faulty agent only. In particular, we are interested in the ...
متن کاملConsensus using Asynchronous Failure Detectors
The FLP result shows that crash-tolerant consensus is impossible to solve in asynchronous systems, and several solutions have been proposed for crash-tolerant consensus under alternative (stronger) models. One popular approach is to augment the asynchronous system with appropriate failure detectors, which provide (potentially unreliable) information about process crashes in the system, to circu...
متن کاملYet Another Visit to Paxos
This paper presents a modular introduction to crash-tolerant and Byzantine-tolerant protocols for reaching consensus that use the method introduced by the Paxos algorithm of Lamport and by the viewstamped replication algorithm of Oki and Liskov. The consensus protocol runs a sequence of epoch abstractions as governed by an epoch-change abstraction. Implementations of epoch and epoch-change that...
متن کاملFault-tolerant distributed algorithms
The following thesis contains several results regarding communication complexity of two basic distributed problems: gossiping and consensus. Gossiping is a problem of exchanging initial knowledge between all processes. Consensus is a problem of making a common decision by all processes. The thesis consist of two parts. First part is devoted to the gossiping problem, analyzed in three different ...
